CPL Square Pulse Technology and Dual Mode Filtering

CPL technology provides a wide range of wavelengths for the treatment of a number of skin conditions, including the removal of unwanted hair, vascular lesions, and photo-damage. CPL’s dual mode filtering and square pulse technology are the key innovations enabling practically pain free (the overall sensation is well-coped by many patients, depending on individual sensitivity) hair removal, which differentiates CPL technology from many ordinary IPL systems. The CPL applicator, with a selection of cut-off filters, offers a broad and effective spectrum for the treatment of unwanted hair and skin imperfections, with minimal patient downtime and risk of side effects. Clinically proven to effectively treat unwanted hair, thread veins, fine lines/wrinkles, and the visible signs of sun damage, CPL treatments are gentle, offering gradual results that leave your skin looking smooth, silky, and radiant.

How Does CPL (Calibrated Pulse Light) Help?

Calibrated Pulsed Light heats the melanin in the hair follicle to a high temperature, destroying the follicle. Once dead, it falls off and usually, over a course of six to eight sessions, all of the follicles in the area are destroyed, leaving the area hair-free. Due to naturally occurring hormones, new hair follicles may gradually regenerate, so a top-up session once or twice per year may be required—offered at a reduced price.

Is an Initial Consultation Required?

Patients undergo an initial consultation before treatment. During the consultation, your CPL Hair Removal specialist will explain the treatment process, examine the areas of concern, and gather some medical history details. They will also answer any questions you may have regarding CPL Hair Removal, and inform you of the likely number of treatments and costs to achieve optimum results. Upon wishing to proceed, you will be asked to sign a consent form and to undergo a test patch.

Pre-care Advice for CPL / Laser Hair Removal

The only method of hair removal to be used before and during the course of treatment should be shaving. All of the below must be avoided during 2–3 weeks prior to the first treatment or during treatment on the area being treated:
  • Bleach
  • Depilatory cream / waxing
  • Plucking or threading
Prior to your laser hair treatment, you must shave within 24 to 48 hours. On areas being treated, no fake tan or natural tan must be present or used. Inhibitors such as SPF and tyrosinase must be used during and after the course—especially on areas exposed to daylight (e.g., face).

Does Skin Type Affect Treatment?

Yes, all skin types can be treated at Bethel Wellness Clinic as we use advanced technology and medical-grade CPL/lasers. This enables us to work efficiently and effectively for the best results.

Recommended Number of Treatments

There is no fixed number of sessions, as results depend on factors such as hair type, medications, medical conditions, hormonal influences (like PCOS), and stress. Generally, 6–8 sessions spaced 4–6 weeks apart are recommended for optimal results.

During Pregnancy or Breastfeeding

During pregnancy or breastfeeding, these treatments are best avoided and not recommended.

Does Laser Hair Treatment Hurt?

We use medical-grade lasers with additional cooling devices to reduce sensation and sensitivity. The overall experience is well tolerated by most patients, depending on individual sensitivity.

What to Expect After CPL / Laser Hair Treatment

Following treatment, you may experience mild discomfort or redness. Hair follicles may appear raised or bumpy, which usually subsides within a few hours (up to 48 hours for some patients). Itching may occur as hairs are expelled a few days later. After CPL/laser removal, hair regrowth is much slower (typically 2–3 weeks). New follicles will appear finer and less dense. After the second session, treated areas may look patchy due to follicle reduction, and after 6–8 sessions, up to 90% hair reduction can be achieved.

The Advantages of CPL Technology

  • The guide glass directs the light beam across a large surface area (50x10mm) and is cooled before and during treatment for comfort and skin protection.
  • The applicator includes an adjustable slot that modifies the lamp’s wavelength according to treatment type and skin tone.
  • A platinum-coated reflective cavity generates high energy density for maximum efficacy.
  • The system allows operators to easily adjust parameters—energy up to 25J/cm², pulse duration between 5–50ms, and micro-pulse intervals for controlled cooling.
  • Cut-off filters emit between 600–1100nm, allowing multiple wavelengths to adapt treatments to the patient’s phototype and target condition.
